Brazil Overview
The country of Chile
stretches from the stark Atacama Desert near the Peruvian border, through
the lush vineyards of the central region, south to the frozen fjords of
Patagonia. Its capital, Santiago, nestles in a valley at the foot of the
Andes.
For Chileans, the English language is an essential part of sustaining the
country’s emerging economy in an increasingly globalized world. Though
Chile is the most stable country in South America, many of its schools lack
essential resources and EFL teachers are all the more necessary to aid in
the country’s educational goals and Chilean children’s ability
to achieve success. Native-speaking English teachers are particularly valued
in Chile as they are able to encourage students to use real-world English
in everyday situations and to learn in a more communicative way than they
might with a non-native teacher. It also benefits the Chilean teachers themselves
as contact with these teachers may be their only opportunity to practice
their language skills in a natural setting.

Teaching Jobs Overview - Chile
It is easy to find teaching jobs in Chile if you have an accredited certificate.
Teachers in Chile find work in public schools, private schools, or corporations
both in Santiago and around the country: in big cities, suburbs, and rural
areas.
Most common are hourly teaching positions in private language institutes.
Students are typically adults and professionals -- very motivated students
who are fun to teach. Classes are typically small, ranging from 4-12 students.
Most institute and corporate classes are scheduled early in the morning,
during the lunch hour, and in the late afternoon to early evening.
State school and university jobs involve more complexity but are obtainable
at assistant level (the assistant level in the Chilean educational system
is a solid position that requires qualified teachers), conversation groups,
or workshops.
Pay for teachers varies widely, and depends on your qualifications, hours-per-week,
and length-of-contract. Hourly salaries can range from US$5-17, monthly
salaries from US$600-1000.

Accommodation & Communications in Chile
Santiago home stay families open their middle-class, often single-parent,
households to our trainees. They may or may not have children living at
home. All host families live in attractive homes in safe neighborhoods.
In your host family's home, you will have your own bedroom and either a
shared or private bathroom. You will be given a key to the house or apartment
and are free to come and go as you please (though, as a guest living with
a host family, you should be sure to respect the routine of the people you
are staying with). Host families provide breakfast and dinner, and enjoy
spending time during meals chatting with students - typically, home stays
provide an excellent way to get to know the local culture and language.
After training, you will most likely rent a room in an apartment or house
with other students or Chileans. Some employers will provide a room for
you, either shared or single (usually in an apartment with other teachers)
and provide you with a monthly stipend.
International calling cards or local prepaid telephone cards are required
to make international calls. Telephone cards are sold at many kiosks and
newsstands. The cards may be used in either public phones (common in Santiago)
or private phones simply by calling the company indicated on the card (long-distance
operators typically speak Portuguese, English and Spanish).
While most remote
areas in Chile lack convenient Internet access, Santiago itself is dotted
with Internet cafιs and even free wireless access in many locations.
