2. Can I get a
Job Without a TEFL Certificate?
These days, anyone looking for a teaching
job without a recognised TEFL certificate is in for a nasty shock.
There are still a few countries in which unqualified teachers may
find employment, but this is becoming rare. Also, unqualified teachers
can expect much lower rates of pay than those who do hold a TEFL
Certificate – basically they will only be offered jobs that qualified
teachers wouldn't want to take.
Most reputable schools and organisations
around the world now insist that their teachers hold a recognised
TEFL qualification such as a CELTA or TESOL. Proper training and
certification, as opposed to a BA degree, will greatly increase
the opportunities open to you.
To put it simply, you wouldn't attempt
to drive a car without first taking some driving lessons and gaining
the necessary skills in advance. Well teaching is much the same.
Like driving, if you try to 'wing it' without really knowing what
you're doing, the chances are that it will all go wrong.
More importantly, you should remember
that most students are desperate to learn English and it's costing
them a small fortune. It’s only fair that you should know what you
are doing and that you can take the money knowing you haven’t just
ripped them off to increase your travel funds!

3. What is TEFL,
CELTA, TESOL?
The Certificate
You Will Gain On Any TEFL Course Will Be Either a TESOL or CELTA
Certificate
TEFL = Teaching
English as a Foreign Language - Is the name of the industry which
encompass two major certificates, the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate
of English Language Teaching to Adults) and the Trinity College
CertTESOL or similar (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers
of Other Languages)
TESOL =
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - A more modern
term which encompasses both TEFL & TESL. All of the above are
used interchangeably in practice worldwide, they all mean virtually
the same. This term refers to the certificate you will receive on
most TEFL courses.
A World TEFL School approved course is
Ideal for beginners and especially for those whose grammar isn't
strong. You will learn how to teach all levels (children, adults,
beginner, advanced, business, one-on-one) giving you multiple employment
options
CELTA =
Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults - A very intensive
TEFL course where the qualification awarded by Cambridge ESOL, part
of the University of Cambridge. Generally speaking, you should possess
a very high level of grammar before enrolling on a CELTA course.
Contrary to popular believe, both CELTA
& TESOL certificates are accepted comparably by most language
schools and institutions around the world.

4. What about
the Job placements and what are the Job prospects like in general?
All World TEFL School approved TEFL certificates
are accepted throughout the world by reputable organisations who
employ English Language teachers. This means that you will most
likely secure a teaching job before, or shortly after, you complete
your TEFL course.
5. You say 'A teaching
Job anywhere in the world in just 4 weeks'
In some countries such as Iraq or North
Korea, it may prove to be a little too challenging for ESL teachers
seeking work. That aside, Its really down to how you perform at
any job interview. As long as you hold a World
TEFL School certificate, present yourself properly and show
some enthusiasm for teaching, you wont have any problems finding
a teaching job in virtually any country around the world.
However, If you arrive at a job interview
late, looking like you just fell out of bed, wearing flip flops,
ripped jeans or you smell like a night on the town - the chances
are you'll never get a teaching job, regardless of what TEFL certificate
you hold!
We strongly advise that you should apply
for any teaching job in person rather than by email or letter. It's
ok to call first and get the name of the school director or head
teacher. On average 96% or all WTS graduates, who applied in person,
got offered a job after visiting just 3 language schools!

course and you will gain an internationally recognised qualification

WARNING: DON’T
send email applications to language schools and expect a reply !
Written applications by email to the
majority of schools in Europe, Asia or South America (assuming you
could compile a list) are usually a waste of time as most have been
let down too many times to even bother replying to emails.
The pool of traveller teachers on the spot is appropriate to the
unpredictable needs of the schools in most countries. Also, sending
your Resume/CV to every school in the local Internet directory will
most likely be fruitless. Why? Because that’s what everyone else
does, and most ESL schools do not have the time or patience to go
through 200 to 300 emails per day, knowing from experience that
the teacher they select will probably not even turn up.
Many ESL/EFL schools have lost count of the number of teachers who
have let them down at the last minute. “Due to some family/personal
problems I will not be able to take up my position…etc.” is the
common one used!
So, the best way to find a teaching job is to get on a plane, fly
to the country of your choice, and search once you get there. This
can seem intimidating as many worry that they will arrive with a
tight budget and not find any work, but it's the only sure way of
securing a teaching job in most countries.
If you really don't fancy this option,
then you may call prospective employers to get the name of the school
director or the head teacher responsible for recruitment. Then,
send your CV/Resume (2 x page summary) along with a personalised
cover letter and recent photo by FEDEX special delivery to the recruiter.
The next and most important step is to follow this up with a number
of phone calls until you secure an interview. The WTS job club staff
will be happy to help you.
