About Cambodia |
| |
Cambodia is one of the most inspiring destinations in the world! Picture Thailand 25 years ago long before McDonalds and package tourists.
Visualize a unique culture, warm friendly people, French style café’s, inexpensive bustling markets, vibrant nightlife, awe-inspiring sunsets, empty beaches, abandoned towns, untamed jungles, enthusiastic students……..welcome to Cambodia!
After years of neglect, Cambodia is finally starting to get back on its feet and is now attracting an ever-increasing number of visitors. In addition to the influx of tourists there are literally masses of Cambodian expats, including many educated Khmer-Americans, returning to their homeland. They bring with them the essential skills and expertise necessary to rebuild a developing country. Thankfully, there appears to be a genuine willingness by the Cambodian government to invest in the country’s infrastructure which is encouraging vital foreign investment.
Notably, Thailand’s complex work permit regulations and a series of new visa restrictions are forcing many Thailand based teachers to abandon the land of smiles and seek alternative pastures. Cambodia, being comparably as safe as Thailand, is beginning to look much more appealing to those who want to continue their idyllic lifestyle with virtually no hassle from the authorities!
Business visas are granted liberally upon arrival in Cambodia allowing foreign TEFL teachers to work in Asia legally…….for a change! Foreign investors face minimal red tape which is stimulating a much needed boost to the economy. Cheap goods, tasty food, budget accommodation, friendly locals, and the most astonishing temples give rise to Cambodia as the perfect unconventional destination for traveling teachers.
One thing's for sure, Cambodia will grant you a thoroughly unparalleled experience that you will never forget!

About Phnom Penh |
| |
Phnom Penh used to be regarded as the most beautiful of all cities in French Indo-China, and much of this colonial charm has survived the violent decades the country.
Recently, several first-class hotels have opened their doors and the city is thriving once again. In addition, budget travelers will benefit from the wide choice of inexpensive guesthouses dotted around town, and all visitors will enjoy the wide range of restaurants and bars catering to tourists and foreign residents. Go easy on the happy pizzas though! |

The TEFL Course |
| |
Moderating Body: The WORLD TEFL School
Certificate: International Standard Certificate TESOL
Affiliations: Languagecorps, Ministry of Education, IATEFL, The World TEFL School
You are now reviewing the most powerful TESOL - TEFL course available on the market. This is not a claim we take lightly. This program has been put together considering not only the best and most current academic thinking in the TESOL - TEFL field, but has combined that with years of practical teaching experience in remote areas of the world. Our staff have been working in the English language-training field for over 30 years, with experience in pure academics, as well as in day-to-day teaching in classrooms all over the world. Take a close look at each component and their integration into the daily and weekly schedules to see what an innovative mix of essential elements is represented here.
This program is significantly different from other available programs in 4 basic ways. These programs are designed to not only get you ready to teach English, but also to get you ready for a living experience in a country of your choice. A significant part of the program focuses on:
-
The Academic Program: This program has been designed not only to include general academic topics included in most TESOL - TEFL programs, but also include special information relevant to teaching in Cambodia.
-
Khmer Language Classes: where you will be trained (30 hours) to a level that will make you able to communicate on a daily basis, and also able to expand you language level after leaving class.
-
Cultural Orientation: This is not just a lip service comment. Our students travel to all parts of Cambodia on excursions every weekend as part of the course. By the time you graduate, you will have a knowledge and appreciation of the country and its customs.
-
Teaching Practice: Our students are required to spend at least 20 to 30 hours doing volunteer teaching practice at a local community facility. We feel that making a contribution back to the community is an important part of the Languagecorps experience.

Health & Safety |
| |
Cambodia is a relatively safe country with very friendly people and a relaxed attitude towards foreigners. Your greatest risks are from road traffic accidents, landmines and unexploded ordnance in rural areas. Don't wander off the beaten track. The usual common sense rules apply, keep an eye on your wallet/purse in crowded places and don't venture out on your own out after dark. Public order is sometimes fragile, however, most visits to Cambodia are trouble-free.
You should be aware that standards maintained by emergency services are poor in comparison to the UK. Evacuation is recommended for medical emergencies. Hospitals are not recommended for anything but immediate stabilization prior to an air medical evacuation or for minor medical concerns. Public health facilities in Cambodia are poor. Private clinics in Phnom Penh are often better equipped but expensive.

General |
| |
You should take enough money for your trip and some back-up funds, e.g. travelers’ cheques, in sterling or US dollars or credit card for cash withdrawals. There are now a few ATMs in Cambodia, all of them in Phnom Penh. However, you should not rely on these, and take a credit card or travelers cheques to fund your trip.
You should keep a photocopy of your passport separate from the original and carry this with you at all times. Your passport, when not in your possession, should be stored in a secure location.
